# Coaching notes allow students to focus their individual practice

One thing I noticed from my daughter's piano practice is how she's referring to her teacher's notes. The notes are everywhere in the books. "Attention to this, attention to that, practice this, practice that". Deliberate practice requires specific information, and this notes serves as a specific information that she can focus on.

When I coach others in software engineering, I provide notes after each pair programming practice, detailing feedback and what my students should focus on. It seems to sink into their head more. One of my student also told me at some point that they sometimes look back into my written notes and focus on that. Others who are more intentional in their learning will take my note at heart and repeat whatever I suggested until they can do it.
